I used to be a bit of an Eastenders fan, years ago. Actually, I stopped watching after Tiffany died. I liked her, and Grant, I thought they made a cute couple, and, oh well. I also loved Sharon and Grant. I even liked watching Sharon on strictly come dancing. Anyway, I moved away from Britain and I kicked the Albert Square habit. And it IS a habit, especially when they went up to four episodes a week!

Yesterday I was in a hotel in Spain and they had BBC Prime. For the first time in years, I stumbled across an episode of Eastenders. Nothing at all had changed! Peggy still looks exactly the same, the Queen Vic hasn’t changed at all, Dot’s still alive (amazing, that), Phil is still getting pudgy. Of course there were a lot of people I didn’t know, but luckily they were all sleeping wih their sister’s husband and/or stealing money from their boyfriends, so I felt right at home.

The real shocker came later that night when there was a double bill of something called Vital Signs, a series about Tamzin Outhwaite, raising a lot of kids with a surly husband and struggling to become a doctor. Wooooooh. WHat the HELL happened to Tamzin/Melanie? Is it just reaaaaaaalllly bad lighting and make-up and tacky clothes? Because she used to be a bit of a looker (and dating Grant Mitchell, I believe ;) and oh boy, she’s is looking terrible. Shame that.

I wonder what will happen to Dot and her son….
