Sometimes it´s hard to be the Big favorite, and sometimes it pays off! The Dark Knight didn´t go home with eight Oscars, but it did snag the Big One: Heath Ledger got his well deserved posthumous prize as Best Supporting Actor for his iconic role as The Joker.

According to Oscar protocol, the statuette will eventually go to his three-year-old daughter, Matilda Rose Ledger. According to the academy, the statuette will be held in trust for Matilda by her mom, actress Michelle Williams, until she turns eighteen,” “At that point, she may execute what we call an heir’s agreement and keep the statuette forever – or, if she chooses not to do that, it will return to us.” an Academy official stated.

There were a lot of rumors about who would accept the award, and in the end the prize was accepted very fittingly by Ledger´s family. “Tonight we are choosing to celebrate and be happy for what he has achieved,” said Heath´s mom Sally Bell, who accepted the award together with Heath’s dad, Kim Ledger, and sister, Kate, to a standing ovation on the stage of Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre.

When asked whether Matilda knew about all the Oscar fuss, Heath´s mom commented that Matilda´s mom Michelle Williams keeps her out of the spotlights as much as possible and that the little girl didn´t have a clue.

Heath´s daughter does bear a strong resmblance to her late dad “You just have to look at her to know that she is totally like her daddy.” Said an emotional Sally Bell.
