CSI was left flaundering a bit at the end of last season, after losing three of its main characters in the past year. That may have been the reason why the producers got Jorja Fox aka Sara Sidle to come back for a couple of episodes.

Five, non-consecutive eps to be precise. Which makes you wonder what she´s actually doing there. Luckily, EW got an interview with CSI show hotshots Carol Mendelsohn and Naren Shankar, who said that this season is mostly about family.

Shankar: “We had several major characters departing over the last year and a half, and it felt like the family had disintegrated a little bit. We wanted to restore that balance of the family. And that initial creative impulse led to the notion of Jorja coming back and helping to assist with that.”

Grissom and Sara, who fell in love over the nine previous seasons, are still together, but in their own special way: “Sara and Grissom had a unique courtship. It [makes sense] that their further relationship would also be unique.”

Which leaves us with the Big question: is Daddy Grissom coming home as well?
Mendelsohn: “You never know when and if Grissom will show up on CSI. The theme of the season is family. And he certainly is part of the family — a big part of the family.”

Guess Grissom´ll be back as well then!
