Ted and Stella, getting hitched?

Ted and Stella, getting hitched?

Great episode, and gladly the End of Boring Stella!
However, did anyone else recognize almost the entire plot of 27 Dresses?

No matter, still a great episode, and a lot funnier than 27 Dresses. Stella’s sister’s wedding gets cancelled at the last minute and Stella & Ted jump in to take the entire thing on. Trouble starts when both their exes show up for the wedding. Classic Barney quotes galore, and wow, what a great ending! I’ll say one thing for Stella/Sarah Chalke: she looked damn hot in that dress!

Dave Anna aka Justin Walker

Dave Annable aka Justin Walker

I like Brothers and sisters, it’s sharp and funny and there’s some great acting. Not by Calista Flockhart, but Matthew Rhys, Rachel Griffiths and Sally Field rock. I hope I look half as good as Sally Field when I’m her age.

Anyway, the new storyline with yet another illegitimate child spawned by their dad? Really? How very As the world turns or Dallas even.

The thing that bugs me about this is why would anyone go looking for a half brother they never met? Why would they care at all? Sarah and Kevin jumped all over this, Kevin left his new husband on their wedding night to go and talk to Sarah about this new brother. Why?!!

My dad’s not the most, err, monogamous of people, and if any halfsiblings ever end up on my doorstep I’ll share a beer with them, sure. Maybe even mix ‘em a g&t. But getting all in a huff and loosing sleep over them? Heck no.

The Walkers already have family enough to satisfy a whole rack of Hallmark cards, and a not-so-related illegitimate sister, so why add to that? I know, the storyline, obviously, but why not let sleeping dogs lie? And why o why would Sarah and Kevin tell their mom before they even found this guy? Hasn’t she had enough to deal with? Must suck so badly that you find out all this stuff about your husband after he’s dead. You can’t yell, there’s no point egging his car or cutting up all his clothes….

Brothers and Sisters Cast

Brothers and Sisters Cast

I like B&S, in part for the clever writing and the great acting, but also because they’re old and still looking good. Calista Flockheart annoyed me in Ally McBeal and she’s still annoying. That whole flakey, trying to find myself stuff is getting very old, as she already did that as Ally. For what felt like decades. Every time she’s on the screen in B&S I hear Vonda Shepard – now there’s a blast from the past, whatever happened to Vonda?  On second thoughts, who cares? – singing some sad song about letting go. Yugh.

Anyway, liked the episode, bit much Ojai business, don’t really care, but Nora and Kevin had good story lines. I love Kevin, Matthew Rhys, love the way he’s developed over the years, I like that they portray a more or less realistic gay couple.
The whole Rebecca/Justin thing still has me creeped out though. Even if she’s not actually his sister, she was for a bit and yikes.

And for all you Sidereelers out there, here’s the link to watch online. Takes forever, but hey, it’s free.

Katie Holmes lukewarm reception

Katie in harem pants and creepy lace

Aiaiaiai, a damning, lukewarm reception for Katie’s role in Arthur Miller’s All my sons. “a girlish exuberance that could serve her well in certain stage roles, provided she finds a director who can ease her obvious self-consciousness.” writes USA Today. Not quite a rave review.

Katie seemed to try and deflect the attention by dressing up in a harem-girl-meets-Las-Vegas-stripper outfit. It kinda worked, because what the hell?

So Katie’s not a great actress. Quel surprise, did anyone actually watch Dawson’s Creek? On the other hand, Arthur Miller hasn’t been this populair since he was married to Marilyn Monroe!

Girlpower? Madonna and Guy finally split

Madonna & Guy

Madonna & Guy

It appears to be the week of celebrity divorces now that Madge’s spokesperson has finally stated that yes, this couple too will get a divorce. It seems to be the old “where there’s smoke there’s fire”, after years of rumours the couple has thrown in the towel.

Now being happily married myself and worried about divorce statistics I hate divorces, especially when against the odds the couple have stayed together longer than the regular Hollywood six months.

However, the feminist in me is kinda digging this new trend of foxy ladies leaving their husbands, rather than it being the other way around. The thing that’s weirding me out is thhat they seem to be downgrading, trading in cute guys for not so cute guys, ie Tea & Billy Bob and now Madonna chucks Cutie Guy for Alex Rodrigez? Hmm, can’t see the attraction myself….

David Duchovny vs Billy Bob Thornton? Reaaaally?

Oct 16, 2008 Author: Liz | Filed under: Celebrities
Billy Bob looking not so hot

Billy Bob looking not so hot vs Duchovny: come on, no contest!

I bet David Duchovny was well miffed when he found out he was being cheated on with Billy *&^&* Bob Thornton!

Billy Bob has a long history of capturing the hearts of babes, not the least of which is, of course, the fabulous miz Angelina Jolie. Though God only knows why all these drop dead gorgeous lasses go for  the old Billy goat, because he looks like the back of my foot. So when word broke that Tea Leoni left cute hubby David Duchovny for Billy Bob I was more than a little shocked. Gerard Butler, sure, I’d go for it, but BILLY BOB? Jeez.

As a feminist I must say it’s nice when the wife leaves the attractive successful male for a change. But the whole Duchovny-sex-addiction-rehab thing seems weird: As someone (sorry, I forget who, but you’re great!) said on the web “Going on a porn & sex binge after being dumped by your wife of eleven years and then being called a sex addict is like crawling out of the desert after a month and being called a water addict.”

James Van Der Beek in One Tree Hill!

James Van Der Beek on HIMYM

James Van Der Beek on HIMYM

Ok, so I never liked James Van Der Beek much in Dawson’s Creek, I prefer my men with a bit of an edge and not quite so much teenage Angst. I really like him as a guest star though: he was hilarious as Robin’s balding, fat, Canadian loser ex in HIMYM and pretty scary as a serial killer in Criminal Minds, so I think he might be good in OTH.

Ok, for everyone who missed JVDB on HIMYM, here it is:

Also, I think it’s kinda nice. OTH are filming on the old Dawson set and apparently in OTH, James will play a movie buff who might be interested in turning Lucas’ book into a movie. Full circle, or what?

Exec Producer Mark Schwahn told Entertainment Weekly “We’re about to [complete] 128 episodes, which is what Dawson’s did,” And adds  “So I thought it would be cool to get James.”

So do we, so do we!

Molly Ringwald: No on prop 8!

Oct 15, 2008 Author: Liz | Filed under: Celebrities
Molly, Pretty in pink

Molly, Pretty in pink

Looking pretty awful in a green, frumpy, wrap dress actress Molly Ringwald made a stand to vote no to prop 8, the law that’ll make it illegal for same sex couples to get married. Now I have given my opinion on this before, I think the law is segregational and discriminatory, not to mention mean and stupid, so I won’t bore you with that. But I’m glad that celebrities are taking a stand and not just using fame as a way to get freebies and good seats in restaurants.
So here’s Molly’s vid:

Is it me or does she look awful in that hideous dress? And the hair?
And if Molly Ringwald, my one time heroine, ravishing in films like Pretty in pink and the wonderful Breakfast Club is 41, how old does that make me? (don’t answer that;)

Brad Pitt: Vote no on prop 8!

Oct 15, 2008 Author: Liz | Filed under: Celebrities
Brad & Angelina

Brad & Angelina

Brad Pitt may have his hands full raising six kids, but he’s also found time to speak out on and support the ‘No on prop 8″ movement, donating 100.000 dollars.

On November 4th Californians can vote on whether same sex couples should be denied the right to get married. Right now they can, if the law’s passed, they can’t. An attempt at legalizing ridiculous discrimination. Marriage is about commitment and love, and denying two people who love each other the right to get married is weird and a little bit frightening. This time it’s gay people, why not next time forbid a Catholic from marrying a Protestant, a white man from marrying a black woman. Or a Jew. Wait, didn’t we already reject those kinds of ridiculous segregational laws?

Brad and Angelina have donated 100.000 bucks, so have Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw. Maybe you can help too: Check out the website
